The iPhone and the Current 3G iPhone Myth
The iPhone is Apple’s entry into the smartphone market. It boasts impressive features, worthy of competing against established smartphone brands like Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericson, even surpassing these established brands in terms of certain form and function factors. As a “new comer” into the mobile phone market, the iPhone stands to be an impressive “first timer”, already setting standards for smartphones, particularly in terms of smartphone user interface.
Apple’s iPhone is basically a multimedia, internet-capable, 2.75G quad-band GSM mobile phone, sure to impress techies and tech-phobics alike. It is designed with text messaging capabilities, email reading and sending functions, and internet browsing features. It comes with Wi-Fi connectivity capabilities, and has an impressive 2.0 megapixel camera integrated into it. It comes in two models, respectively each with 4 gigabyte and 8 gigabyte storage capacities, making it an impressive portable audio/video player.
Since its release into the smartphone market, rumors of a 3G iPhone in existence has gone around, but is not true. As already noted, the iPhone is a 2.75G class of mobile phone, ultimately defining the status of the 3G iPhone myth.
When one talks about 3G in smartphones, using the concept of a video phone would help in explaining, as a 3G phone is capable of handling data in fast speeds. To date, there is no 3G iPhone out in the market, yet. The possibility of a 3G iPhone to come though, is another story.
The iPhone operates on an “optimized-for-mobile-devices” version of the popular Mac OS X operating system from Apple, the current standing operating system for Mac Desktops and Laptops, which consumes about 700 megabytes of space. It works with compatible mobile-ized versions of popular Apple software, using PC Connectivity solutions in data synchronization excursions between one’s computer and one’s iPhone.
Its form factor is deeply rooted on the whole “top of the line, cutting edge technology concept”, as it does complement the cutting edge technology the phone boasts to have. Its user interface stands to be quite amazing. With a touch screen input system calibrated to successfully operate on the density of skin, the need of a stylus is negated in the iPhone. Its main “mobile phone keypad” comes in the form of a virtual keypad, which is in itself amazing already.
With a standby time battery life of up to 250 hours, 8 hours of talktime, 24 hours of music player mode, 6 hours internet browsing, and 7 hours movie viewing, the iPhone outperforms the leading brands coming from Nokia, Samsung and Blackberry.
Though a 3G iPhone isn’t out, it is most likely that there will be one soon.
